Is Banana with Chocolate a healthy snack?
Absolutely yes!!!! Chocolate and Banana is a match made in heaven.
They are nutritious, full of antioxidants, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. These bites are a great energy booster and an overall healthy snack.
If you have followed me for a while, you probably already know that I love making sugar and gluten-free versions of any recipe. And this is not the exception. It is completely sugar-free! So it scored one more point.
Just 3 Ingredients recipe
That’s it! You only need three simple ingredients that you probably have already in your pantry. What can stop you?
Bananas: Depending on how many bites you want to prepare, but with two medium bananas, you can make up to 24 bites. Use bananas that are ripe but firm. Because if they are too ripe, the texture will be mushy, which doesn’t make a good treat!
Chocolate chips: Since I want to make a sugar-free version, I’m using unsweetened dark chocolate chips. But if the flavor of dark chocolate is too much for you, you can also use milk chocolate chips or add a few drops of stevia to the chocolate once it is melted.
Coconut Oil: One tablespoon will help soften the chocolate shell when frozen. Otherwise, it might crumble apart when you bite.
With these three ingredients is already good. Of course you can add some vanilla, cinnamon or Stevia to enrich the flavour.
Toppings
Here you can let your imagination flies. You can eat these bites flat. But you can also add some toppings. For example, I love to cover it with shredded coconut, chia seeds, or chopped nuts. Yum! You will need to add the ones you pick to the melted chocolate because it hardens so fast while you put it on the frozen bananas that otherwise, they won’t stick to the bites.
Extra Flavor tips to make the best bites
So, you can always play with your favorite spices to improve this recipe. For instance, you can add a pinch of cinnamon, vanilla, or mint extract to your melted chocolate for some extra flavor.
How to make Chocolate-Covered Banana Bites
Firstly, you will need to wash your bananas.
Yes please!
Remember that you can transfer harmful bacterias to your bananas with your hands. Even if you will peel the banana, washing it is always a good idea.
Then follow these simple steps:
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- After that, peel the bananas and remove the strings. Then cut the bananas into rounds slices about 1/4 inch thick and place them in your lined baking sheet.
- Place everything in the freezer for 30 minutes.
- Meanwhile, in a mixing bowl, add 1/2 cup of chocolate chips and 1 tbsp of coconut oil.
- Then put the glass bowl over a pot of simmering water. Make sure the water is not touching the bottom of the bowl because it could burn the chocolate. And we only need the stem to heat the bowl to melt everything.
- After that, add a tbsp of vanilla extract or pinch cinnamon for some extra flavor. The vanilla extract will enhance the chocolate and add some extra sweetness. Taste the mix, and if it’s still too bitter, you can add a few drops of Stevia.
- Add your toppings to the mix, making sure it stays liquid. My favorite ones are shredded coconut and chia seeds.
- Next, remove the bananas from the freezer and dip each slice into the melted chocolate. Use a toothpick to remove them from the melted chocolate.
- Place back in the freezer to let the chocolate harden for around 1 hour.
- Enjoy!
You can keep them in the freezer in airtight containers for yummy snacking.

Notes
- When you take the frozen banana slices out of the freezer to dip in the chocolate, the bananas will soften quickly, so try to do this step as fast as possible.
- If the melted Dark Chocolate’s taste is too strong, you can add a few drops of stevia and a pinch of cinnamon.
- Make sure the bananas aren’t mushy. For this recipe, firm-ripe bananas are the best option.
- When adding your toppings, make sure you use only a sprinkle because the mixture should stay liquid to cover the bananas easily.
