Are you having a bad hair day? Welcome to my club.
Oh yeah! I’ve had some of those too. And who doesn’t?
The reality is that none of us wake up looking like a Hollywood star, and girls, I know lousy hair can ruin your confidence instantly.
Bad Hair after Childbirth
It seems that during postpartum, a bad hair day is EVERY DAY!
Honestly, I still don’t quite understand how this can be possible. So, one day you are pregnant and have beautiful, glowing hair. Then, the next day, you give birth and BAM! Suddenly it doesn’t look so good anymore.
While it isn’t like this for every momma, the hormonal changes after childbirth affect our hairstyle appearance.
The hormone levels of estrogen, progesterone, and prolactin are highest during pregnancy and decline rapidly after the baby is born (although prolactin may continue elevated if you’re breastfeeding). This hormone fluctuation can lead to hair loss after childbirth, which is frightening for new mothers.
Six simple ideas to Fix a Bad Hair Day
These ideas may work perfectly for you if you are a frugal postpartum momma who doesn’t have tons of time. Or if you already went to the salon and ended up upset with your hairstylist.
No ironing or expensive treatments are involved. Just practical and fast ideas. And the products I recommend in this post are all-natural, easy to find, and will not intervene with breastfeeding.
Here we go!
1- Cover it up!
How fast is that! But it really can make a positive switch on your look. So put a hat on and hide your messy mane.
During winter, hats boost your looks and keep you warm on the coldest days. Plus, the summertime is functional as it will protect your skin from the UV sun rays.
2- Accessories
A headband or head scarf can instantly lift your appearance and help get your hairstyle together. They are colorful and look super cute and juvenile.
If you are looking for a more fresh and teen look, you can easily doll up using a tic tac clip or bobby pins.
Hair accessories can make your life easier.
3- Prepare a homemade hair moisturizer
This mask has made an incredible difference in controlling my frizz and volume.
I put together in a jar a tablespoon of Coconut oil, Shea butter, Castor oil, and Sweet almonds oil.
This mixture goes into the microwave for 1 minute to melt everything. Then I put the lid on and shake it for a few seconds, and it’s ready to go.
When chilled, it becomes a solid, creamy mixture with a deliciously nutty aroma. Just a little bit is quite efficient in controlling frizz, moisturizing and conditioning hair.
If I want to control the frizz without looking greasy, I take just the tip of my finger, then melt it in my hands and massage it into my hair for a minute.
But when I want to go the extra mile, I apply a little more in the morning and leave it on while I do chores. Then I wash my hair before I go out on errands.
When I have more time, I love preparing this ginger homemade mask. Check it out in the video down below.
4- Use a Silk Cap or Pillowcase at Bedtime
I’m wearing my silk cap as I’m writing this sentence.
Adding these accessories to my bedtime is a way to guarantee I will wake up in the morning with good hair. Of course, it’s a bit of an investment because, as we all know, silk isn’t necessarily cheap, but it is worth it.
Trust me! I have a growing pixie that is an absolute mess, and the only way I don’t wake up looking like a furious lion is by using my silk cap at night.
The pillowcase is marvelous as well. It protects your hair and the skin area of your face and neck, which are more sensitive and prone to wrinkles.
I got the Beauty Sleep Set from Lilysilk, and I feel like a Fairy Tale princess every time I use it.
5- Drinking plenty of water
We spend tons of energy and money trying to fix our hair from the outside. However, our hair also reflects how our body is doing inside. That’s why it’s crucial to hydrate from the inside out. Drinking plenty of water will moisturize and help your hair looks less frizzy and dry.
Next time you are having a bad hair day, go for a glass of water first time in the morning.
6- What you eat matters
Did you know that a diet rich in simple carbohydrates and sugars can deplete your collagen reserves?
Sugar accelerates hair loss and hinders the absorption of proteins such as collagen and keratin—another reason why sugar is bad for your health.
To have a lustrous, shiny, and strong mane, you need the correct balance of protein, minerals, and vitamins. So, your hair loves Vitamin C-rich foods and animal protein such as eggs, salmon, and organ meat, which are also rich in iron, zinc, and selenium. In addition, vitamin A, E, Biotin, and Omega 3 are some of the essential nutrients for having a great mane and avoiding future bad hair days.
Final thoughts
So, momma, I hope you found these tips helpful. I know from my own experience that a bad hair day can make you feel less confident and beautiful. You deserve to look your best for your well-being, even if you stay home full time, especially during postpartum recovery.
Let me know if you have some other tips on your own or have already tried some of these ideas.
Have a great day, and always remember you are already the most beautiful woman on Earth.
XOXO, Idania
